3    What is direct selling? How is it different from pyramid selling?

As defined by the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations, direct selling refers to the selling of products and services directly to consumers, usually at their homes or at their work places, or places away from a fixed retail location. Sales are typically made through presentations or demonstrations by direct selling representatives.

There are great differences between bona fide direct selling companies and fraudulent pyramid scheme companies. The former provide excellent service and products to satisfy customers' needs, while the latter only aim at short term huge profit by recruiting new members and imposing high start-up fee. (Please refer to Bona Fides and Fraudulence.)
