14  Is Amway China's direct selling operation different from that of the overseas markets? How can China maintain the competitiveness of direct selling?

The basic principle for Amway to set footholds in over 80 countries and regions worldwide is to respect the specific conditions and comply with legal requirements of every market.

Having entered into the China market for over a decade, Amway has made five major adjustments in its business pattern and continuous innovations in its selling pattern to cope with the changing environment and regulatory requirements in China. Unlike other Amway markets, Amway China has adopted a sales pattern which combines direct selling and retail through outlets and agents. This provides consumers with flexible and personalized services and builds brand image through traditional retail channels.

  • Direct sales: Distributors sell products and provide services to end users directly away from fixed retail locations. Distributors earn retail profit and monthly bonus according to personal sales volume.
  • Sales through retail outlets: Sales representatives sell products, provide services and organize promotions at retail outlets. Sales representatives sign employment contracts with Amway and earn monthly salary and bonus according to performance.
  • Sales through agents: Salespersons with a business license and a fixed retail location that fits Amway's requirements can apply as an Amway agent, selling Amway's products and promoting Amway's brand image in the fixed location. Sales agents earn retail profit by product sales and may also earn service fee if a service contract is signed with Amway for promoting its brand image. The service fee is offered in a fixed amount each month after a service contract is signed with Amway and it will be reviewed regularly.

Achievement levels of salespersons: Experienced salespersons with outstanding performance will be invited to become sales representatives or agents to work in fixed retail locations. Potential and experienced sales representatives who meet the required qualifications will be invited to join Amway's professional training. Upon successfully passing the examinations, sales representatives can be promoted from sales assistant to sales supervisor, senior sales supervisor, manager, senior manager and sales director.
